| Pinnacle Pastures Farm has farm fresh eggs available: $2.50 per dozen.
Chicken eggs are available year around. Laying hens will be kept in a mobile unit and follow the dairy heifers on pasture this year.
Duck eggs are larger, available seasonally and are available now. They are especially good for baking!
Our laying hen flock is comprised of many breeds but primarily Buckeyes as they are our very favorite hens. The Buckeye is a dual-purpose breed of chicken with lustrous red plumage. They have yellow legs and skin, a pea comb, and lay an abundance of large brown, beautiful eggs. They are very cold hardy so well suited to Wisconsin. Buckeyes do best under free-range conditions, or where they have plenty of room to move around. Buckeyes were developed by Mrs. Nettie Metcalf of Warren, Ohio, and named after the "Buckeye State." Buckeyes are unique in the American Class of chickens in that it is the only breed created entirely by a woman. Buckeyes also have a personality all their own, very active and noted for being especially vigilant in the pursuit of mice! They tend to have very little fear and are very friendly which is why we enjoy them so much! Buckeyes lack the tendency to feather-pick each other which is rare. Eggs are especially healthful and extra nutritious during the pasture season when hens are free to roam, enjoy the sunshine and consume a normal, natural diet as they were intended to do. Photos of the hens on pasture will be posted over the course of the season. Farm fresh aggs are available year-round. Please place your order for pastured eggs now while they are still available!
